A Slash Above… The rarest slashers from across the world tracked down reviewed and rated…

Hi I’m Luisito Joaquin Gonzalez, you may have seen my name about on the internet in association with the slasher genre as I have written for the Imdb and Hysteria Lives for a few years now. Anyway, I always wanted to have my own site, but having a pretty draining job, I just never got around to it and to be fair, I never will. But writing on the Imdb does have its limitations and so I thought I would turn to wordpress where I can have my say and not worry too much about my non-existent skills in maintaining a website.

This is me trying to look cool, but failing recently:

I have a couple of things to say, before we get going. I am not planning to do a full slasher website at the moment, because there are already a couple of brilliant ones on the web and I am not trying to do anything like my buddy Justin over at Hysteria Lives But I do know that there are a lot of slasher movie fans out there and I am planning to review as many rarities as I can so that you can get a guide to ones that you may not have in your collection or the ones that you always wondered about. At first I’ll just be using the reviews that I already wrote for the Imdb, but when and IF I get a following of interested readers, then I will continue to update as regular as possible until I have got the whole cycle covered.

If you have previously or recently read my reviews and are wondering what kind of deranged mind could be behind watching so many (mostly rubbish) slasher films, I will happily fill you in with DSC04923some info. Well I am from Spain originally (I have an Irish granddad somewhere down the line) but I have lived in the UK since 1987. I had always been in and around North London, but now I am in Hampshire in Sunny Basingstoke where I work in IT Sales (it pays the bills.) I have been in to slasher films since I stayed up late one Halloween night and recorded the film of that title from TV. I was going through a phase of recording all kinds of films and collecting them, but up until that point I had always been too squeamish for horror. (I was about ten at the time). After watching John Carpenter’s classic, it changed my life forever and I have been in love with the slasher genre ever since. I have spent over 18 years hunting out and watching genre pieces and in the days before IMDB and Amazon, I used to have to watch a movie before finding out if it actually was a slasher or not (80s VHS covers were deceptive) so I have seen quite my fair share of shoddy Horror films!

Aside from that, I am a massive Arsenal fan and watch quite a few games. I was a season ticket holder for years, but not enough money now, so I go about 15-20 games a season. I like cooking, Spanish foods mainly, but I quite like Russian dishes too. I speak some languages, Polish and a bit of Russian and I like exploring Eastern Europe. I like survival horror (I collect with a similar passion to slashers!) and I own over 900 non-slasher DVDs. When it comes to normal cinema, I like David Lynch, Pedro Almodovar, Scorcese – all the classics really. Put it this way, my taste in traditional cinema is nowhere near as audacious as my tastes in horror. When it comes to reading, I like non-fiction books about mafia godfathers (Check out Murder Machine about Roy Demeo’s crew) or I like historical accounts either about my home country or Russia from the Romanov era. Edvard Radzinski is my favourite author. I studied history in Uni, so it’s still something I love. Music? Well my music tastes are all over the place, first I was a rocker (Crue, Poison, Tigertailz, Heart Throbb Mobb, Indian Angel) then I was a Drum & Bass MC on Kool FM back in 93. I have chilled out more now and like everything from Swing (Dean Martin) to Reggae (Barrington Levy) to Indie (The Libertines) to normal pop! I also love my Spanish music, Miguel Bose, Juanes, Enrique, Miranda, Shakira and Joan Manuel Serrat. I can sing a bit too and got through the first audition of X Factor – how many people can say that?

Thanks for taking the time to find out about me and I sincerely hope that I can find you some more slasher movies to add to your collection.

Peace…..
